Mai-Otome Episode 14

Japanese Title: オトメのS・O・S (Otome no S・O・S)
English Translation: An Otome’s S.O.S


The war between the battling Otomes of Romulus and Remus ended without much flashiness. In fact, we didn’t even get to see it end. While I initially thought this ep was centered on the duel or to be more precise, the conflicting destinies of Otomes, it took on an entirely different course, mainly focusing on Arika’s predicament of discovering that she has fallen in love with Sergay. The tension is particularly high throughout most of the episode. Plenty of screaming, I guess... Most of it by Miya ^^;. She’s probably the one who took it the hardest since she had to endure knowing Remus was duking it out with her fellow classmate’s country, PLUS she still needed to play minion to Tomoe. Besides that, there were plenty of new revelations which probably haywired notable speculations in the past. Right, I won’t keep minna-san reading for too long so here’s another brief review. Major theories will be postponed until the latest episode, by the way.



~Highlights of The Episode~

Spanking is good for adults too

Ah Haruka, her normal gung-ho self as usual... It’s adorable in the way she ignored all consequences and naïvely asked Yukino on “where else” could she slap if she can’t have other people’s rears. I’m sure she’ll make a wonderful “mother” one day. It’s very likely her “kids” would spend most of their time in the hospital treating their sore butts from all the slappin’ (You remember how strong she can get, right?). My curiosity was piqued earlier as to why she was so adamant on punishing those two Otomes. They’re probably her room attendants based on the photo. Then again, bet she doesn’t care whose direct juniors they are. She’d slap their sorry oshiri anyway for causing a commotion like that.


My Queen, have mercy on your royal pet!!

I was certainly surprised Mikoto hasn’t suffocated to death yet. But then, it just wouldn’t be Mai-Otome without its mascot ne... How many days has Mashiro been headlocking her like that? Kuruuushiiiiiiii.


Cross-breeding?

Looky looky!! Julia and Vrus’ hybrid kids! Er, well... They just look like ‘em. Miyu said they’re CHILD-like so one can wonder what exactly they’re capable of which ordinary Slaves aren’t. A web of illusion perhaps? What is the significant difference between them and the Slaves? Perhaps they don’t need a medium?


Dreams or Love?

Arika finally couldn’t deny her feelings any longer and broke down under the pressure of knowing what it’s like to fall in love with someone when she still has dreams to fulfill. It must have been scary for her to experience a foreign emotion like love for the first time. Thank goodness, the ever-so-sweet girl Ers-chan is right there to hold and comfort her. Well, she is suffering from the same problem, more or less. This is indeed a rather unfamiliar sight. Genki Arika letting love get to her head and mess up her mind. But it’s good she’s almost back to normal now. Hmm... I find it rather odd when Erstin sang the song to Arika because the whole scene seemed so cliché and yet, it fits somehow when you’re taking into account what Arika has done for a vulnerable Erstin in the past. Er... Is it just me or does Arika’s face in the second pic look rather ecchi? ^^;


Miss you, Shizuru.....

Here, we have a clear-cut example of what loneliness can do to you. Never knew it would develop into a serious stage of indirect hallucination :p. Guess Natsuki misses Shizuru A LOT if the latter naturally popped into her mind just like that. She actually forgot she was the one who sent Shizuru off to a solo business trip herself? It’s instinct I tell you! INSTINCT!! Is this Sunrise’s subtle way of pulling our legs that the two in fact have a mutual unspoken bond which goes as deep as needing and imagining one another’s company during every conceivable moment? Natsuki’s blush at Yohko’s comment is too cute, and it seems Yohko has correctly interpreted the Gakuenchou’s feelings for Shizuru. ~^^~


Ally from the shadows?

We know Miyu is a good friend of Arika’s so she’s probably not a threat to our main heroine. However, her attitude towards Shizuru, or rather Garderobe for that matter, is a bit more cold and withdrawn. Does she know something about them? Judging by how the other parties such as Aswald are acting towards Garderobe, there are a few speculations that the school has several dark secrets of its own. It’s no surprise if Miyu is aware of those. We’re still not very certain yet as to how she is connected to all of the events which are happening or will happen, but it’s likely she will play somewhat of a link role between Arika and probably a few other factions. Also, she knows that “the Sealed Black Power has begun to make its move”. Black Power? As in Schwarz maybe? We shall see...
PS. Aww... Natsuki is always on Shizuru’s mind. But of course. ^^


Itadakimasu~!!

So says Erstin ;p. I wholeheartedly agree with Zyl that this is her cunning conspiracy ploy to get Arika out of the room so she could spend a little quality time having her special someone for dinner (Well yeah, that isn’t exactly what happened but we can dream ^^). I wonder if this used to be a regular “activity” between the two before Arika joined them. They look so sweet together. Nina didn’t seem to mind Erstin cuddling her like that (But damn, Ers-chan sure can get aggressive when it comes to meal-time :p). If it was Arika who was giving Nina some rubbing, she probably would have ended up creating her trademark crater in the ceiling again.
