English Translation: For Your Sake...
Er... I’m not exactly sure what I should pinpoint on in this episode. To put it bluntly, it left me with a bunch of mixed emotions... A very twisted bunch of mixed emotions..... However, I find the progression of the plot really well done and it’s clear we’re finally going somewhere in a solid direction. They did slot in a few important issues related to the main story in the episodes before this, but that was done in a small scale and they didn’t have much of an impact apart from stalling the events so that we could all experience an explosive finale at the end. Imho, Episode 24 served as the ideal penultimate chapter of the series. The way the writers glued all the separate fragments together and then building them towards the climatic end was brilliantly done. Couldn’t have thought of a better setup. On the whole, I still enjoyed this ep very much although there are certain things which don’t sit well with me, and I’m sure some of you already know and agree prior to my thoughts on what those things are. Right, that’s enough of an intro from me, lets get moving...
~Highlights of the Episode~
Natsuki’s Ol’ Biker Days

WAI!! Natsuki finally gets to sit on a bike again! And not showing us her skills in riding it. Bu T_____T... Miss her trademark black leather suit. This one made her look like some 60’s pilot with the goggles and all.
The remaining Two

This is one of Sunrise’s noticeable flaws in their series. Too many characters and too little time. It sure took them long enough to finally introduce Maya Bryce and Sala Gallagher. It might have been better if the writers put them in earlier, say around halfway through the series or appointed somebody else as the Columns. Honestly speaking, I see Yukariko, Mai or even Maria to have a more fitting role. Maya and Sala may be the most powerful Otomes along side the other three, but somehow seeing them in the same bunch as Natsuki, Shizuru and Nao completely doesn’t look right, and I blame it on the late introduction. All we can expect now is see what they’re capable of in the remaining episodes.
Rivalries revealed

I’ve been impatiently waiting for the day when the top two ex-Corals would at last bring their rivalry to the surface and biatch-slap another, although it seems Tomoe is the only one who’s getting the treatment :p. This little spat proved to be intriguing in that it causes both girls to finally take off the professional mask they’ve been wearing all this while. Even though they seldom spend time with each other, their interactions always turned out to be interesting whenever they share a scene together. Both know their places, and they’re not afraid to restrain themselves when it comes to expressing their thoughts as well as actions. For once, Tomoe actually said something sensible to Nina when she told her that she didn’t want to know her thoughts because of the things Nina did. Who knows whether this would be their final meeting, but I do look forward to the time when they would do more than just “watch each others’ back”.
Begging for sympathy

Psychotic Lesbo + Fake Drama = WIN
Have to give credit for Tomoe’s performance. She placed herself in a sorry state so well. It’s too bad for her that Shizuru already knows about her “schizophrenic” nature and will almost certainly shatter the younger girl’s heart in a dramatic way later on (If the preview means anything, it’s evident her reaction can be frightening... Really frightening). I do feel sorry for Tomoe though, mainly because her feelings towards Shizuru are truly sincere, and the latter is using them to her advantage. Well, I suppose I could let it slip if that means publicly hooking her up with Principal Kruger.
A Star among the minor characters

Despite Irina’s role being quite small in the series as a whole, her efforts in taking responsibilities and leading her classmates in the Shinso rescue mission is definitely praiseworthy. This is one of those times she deserves a mention for doing something significant in helping out the big shots when before, all she did was probably play the occasional jester in Arika’s class. Kudos to her.
The Knight and the Maid

This scene is so fluffy ~^^~! It’s hard to miss the fact that Chie has been caring for Aoi and visiting her every night. I am kind of worried about Chie after seeing that expression on her face. It may be an ominous sign of bad things to come, especially because she’s now in the battle field where she’s expected to fight the Calvary against her will.
Untold Feelings

Nina reading Erstin’s posthumous letter is undeniably the most emotional scene in the entire episode. Just hearing Ers-chan again is enough to fill my mind with sad nostalgia, although I did feel warm and mushy when they showed how she and Nina met. Ah~ Sweet love. I like the way Nina had that tender look on her face when she smiled and showed genuine kindness towards Erstin despite her being the cold and aloof person we saw very early on in the series. Erstin is probably the only friend she lowers her heart’s defenses to and lets the former get on her soft side.

Happier times... Erstin’s commentaries here reminded me of the cruel fate that was so unfairly forced onto her. It’s obvious she cherished her friends more than anything and wished the Black Letter would never come so that they could always be together. It’s unfortunate she’s not rooted enough to oppose her family’s ideals because of the way they messed up her mind when she was young. It’s heart-wrenching to see her tell Arika and Nina they are both strong after indirectly admitting her own weakness, and that she loved them both dearly.

Nina completely broke down after Erstin ended the letter by telling her that she was happy and blessed to have been together with them. It’s really touching how Nina’s tears fell on top of Erstin’s own. Furthermore, “Kaze to Hoshi ni Dakarete...” served as the perfect background song to draw out the emotion conveyed by the latter when you take the lyrics into consideration (although they left out probably the more relevant verses).
Crossing the family border

I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve used the phrase “Damn you, Sunrise!!” and more than ever before, I’m about to abuse it after watching this. Gawd, Sergay!! What the h3ll was he thinking?! I actually don’t mind him having a romantic relationship with Nina later on *shivers* but the way he gave himself into her request like that was so wrong. Why did he do it? Did he surrender to Nina just because he felt sorry for her after watching her cry? That she admitted she could never be like Rena, his Blue Star? Those flashbacks before they kissed made him look more like a pimp with a loli harem. Geez... It might have been less repulsive if they didn’t include those. Of course the big question now is “Did they really do it?” Why was Nina still able to use the Harmonium? Does it always require all three elements to be present for the player to be able to use it? I noticed in Episode 23 when Nina was attacking Ealis, she wasn’t wearing her Robe when she used the Harmonium. Does this mean that once it has chosen its player, it overlooks the presence of the other elements? If Nina really lost her powers, then consider the final showdown between her and Arika to be curtly cancelled. Damn...
Well earned acknowledgement

LOL Nao’s “WTH?” expression is always award-winning :p. She’s usually the one who makes everybody else wear that face but it’s fun to see her get poked once in a while. I’m glad Natsuki finally gives Nao the recognition and gratitude she deserves. It’s about time someone realizes the significance of the latter’s role when it comes to support. Nao hates responsibilities but it’s clear she understands how important Otomes are to the society. Despite being a delinquent herself, she knows who the real enemies are, and it’s really commendable that she’s even willing to betray her own country’s leader to help Natsuki and gang liberate Garderobe and Windbloom. Can’t wait to see her kick @$$ with her new (fugly) Meister Robe. ~^^~
This. Is. WAR!!

Ooh YES!! Seeing each faction’s stand and preparations for the huge war just made me all the more excited and impatient about tomorrow’s one hour long finale! I can safely say the battles that will take place will surely be far more thrilling than HiME’s own “Fuuka Gakuen Recovery Operation”. Props to the Windbloom Liberators who will be taking on the Harmonium as well as Artai and their allies in full force. Moreover, Mai, Mikoto, Miyu and the Aswad Knights are joining and backing them up later on so it’s a guarantee the final showdown will be fanservice galore.
Wait? Of course we can’t... Not if the remaining two episodes are delivering what is to be the most explosive chapters of the series yet.

Oi.. that was fast!
I totally agree, this episode was really well written and very well directed (you already mentioned Nina´s tears falling on Erstin´s and I was very impressed at the beginning when Nina get dressed and remembered the old times, just how her face of the memory fades into her face of today both smiling, but their smiles couldn´t have been more different.. great, that made me shiver).
But let´s start where the big bomb fell. I have to say, when I saw the preview I was disturbed, I just thought "No, this is not going to really happen, Sunrise just wanna tease us some more" Damn Sunrise! I underestimate them (again).
But as I watched it, it didn´t feel that wrong as I thought.. I can´t really explain it, maybe because the scene was really well done, maybe because of Sergey saying several times "my most precious person", I couldn´t help but just being happy for Nina.
I don´t exactly know why Major Wang finally gave in, but I like to think that, when Nina said that she could never become his blue star, he finally realized that it´s wasn´t nothing but an old dream (like he once said) and that he had someone far more important here and now.
As for these (*family*)memories I think that they were there just to make contrast with Nina´s "Sergey.."
Fazit: I can´t really believe that our loli master has truly romantic feelings towards Nina but I do believe him when he says that she is his most beloved one, h3ll, he even thinks of her before he passes out!! (GOSH, this whole discussion reminds me STRONGLY about two other characters in Hime in the penultimate episode.. ^_^)
Yai! Nao got her GEM!!Ya know what it means?!? (beside that we got to see Spiderman 3 even before it comes out in the theatres?) Yeah, Natsuki succeeds in reactivate Fumi!YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!! Go girls and kick @$$!!!
Ah, Natsuki Porco Rosso like.. get back to your leather suit, you sexy girl!!;)
I don´t know what you think, but Tomoe proved herself again to have a very talented brain. What she tells Nina is essentially TRUE and I can´t help but thinking that maybe she have a little part in the latter´s breaking out too.
AND AT THE END THE OSCAR GOES TO.. SHIZURU!
Well Tomoe does a pretty good job but she can´t compete with THE master. Shizuru´s performance was that great that I almost melt down (even if it was with the VERY VERY wrong person) when she gave her that painkiller kiss.. *^.^*
And I can´t really blame her for doing so, after all Tomoe did the same thing to her and if (like you said) her love for Shizuru is sincere, well, sorry but it´s almost the only thing about her that truly is..
Gosh, I´ve written so much, gomen, but this episode really got me..
Once again, thank you for reading and commenting! ^^
"I don´t exactly know why Major Wang finally gave in, but I like to think that, when Nina said that she could never become his blue star, he finally realized that it´s wasn´t nothing but an old dream (like he once said) and that he had someone far more important here and now."
Yes, that makes sense. Hmm... When he realized he has someone far more important, how does he see Nina then? As his daughter or a romantic interest? The fact that the writers frequently emphasized more on the "Nina & Her Otousama" relationship rather than the "Nina X Sergay" one is what made the whole thing look awkward to me, because I view Sergay's actions there and then as something which is done on impulse when he saw Nina's condition. If the writers didn't make him always think of Nina as his daughter, then that scene would have been far more believable and I would feel happy for Nina as well that Sergay has finally come to love her romantically. I guess the sole thing to blame at the moment is how they rushed everything because the series is drawing to a close (although, don't lose heart coz there are extra episodes coming up to expand on the TV series' story ^^). Imho, I lean towards Garten's impression on what Sergay should have done due to the way the writers developed his character as a father figure to Nina even though the latter loves him in a romantic way instead.
"I don´t know what you think, but Tomoe proved herself again to have a very talented brain. What she tells Nina is essentially TRUE and I can´t help but thinking that maybe she have a little part in the latter´s breaking out too."
Exactly. Tomoe has always been someone who is very dangerous, perceptive and intelligent. She can unerringly guess what everyone else is thinking without them telling her. Well... Everyone except Meister Shizuru of course, which brings me to my next point...
"Well Tomoe does a pretty good job but she can´t compete with THE master. Shizuru´s performance was that great that I almost melt down (even if it was with the VERY VERY wrong person) when she gave her that painkiller kiss..
I totally agree. Shizuru is the undisputed winner when it comes to drama. The way she faked herself to lean in towards Tomoe's favor is incredible, to the point that I'm beginning to feel utterly sorry for the younger girl when she finds out later that her precious Oneesama is just playing with her heart. It will definitely hurt a damn lot, especially if the person who betrayed you is someone whom you love the most.
Hey, no need to thank, it´s my pleasure to talk to you. ^^
As I wrote, I don´t think that Sergay has a true romantic interest in Nina but I really believe that he deeply cares for her, even more than a father for a daughter, or else in a different way.
But I don´t expect to have this point explained by Sunrise cause I still believe that Sergay is going to die (it would also be disturbing if he awakes *for the THIRD time* from death again; that would turn this series into a zombie horror movie, something like "mai otome - sometimes they come back.." uhh x_x), maybe he will wake up for a moment just to tell Nina to go on and be happy but at least I think it would better for him to rest in peace.
Yeah, Segay could have done what Mentar wrote, but, hey, if so, right now we wouldn´t arguing about Nina still having a Robe or not.. and that would be so booooooooring!;)
What did you say?? Some extra episodes?? WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW MANY?!?! And you don´t mean the Dvd specials, right? BTW I just saw Juliet´s cospiracy.. eheh.. MOElicious.. (O.o);
So today is the day, I hope (no, I pray, and I´m not religious) that Sunrise won´t serve us a mess.(v.v)
"As I wrote, I don´t think that Sergay has a true romantic interest in Nina but I really believe that he deeply cares for her, even more than a father for a daughter, or else in a different way."
If that justifies his reason for bedding his daughter, then I fully agree. After thinking about it, it seems the reason Sergay did that was because he didn't want Nina to suffer any more, hence taking away her right to become an Otome is probably the best (and easiest) thing to do. But as you said, the debate now lies on whether he really did it because the GEM was still able to react to Nina's emotions.
"But I don´t expect to have this point explained by Sunrise cause I still believe that Sergay is going to die"
Haha, I may sound cruel but I actually prefer him to die too. It's utterly ridiculous how he keeps brushing off death after he gets fatally wounded. I can overlook how he survived the attack by Ketos (Lumen's Slave) but the incidents where he was slashed by Erstin's Slave and run though by Miyu was plain stupid. In Erstin's case, he escaped without a scratch and Miyu said she stabbed him in a critical area. Now he was shot in the head and yet he still survives?! I doubt even Otomes could live after something that. Geez... Begone Sergay and rest in peace! :p
"What did you say?? Some extra episodes?? WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW MANY?!?! And you don´t mean the Dvd specials, right?"
Nope, not the DVD specials but rather OVA episodes (4 of them). I was a bit shocked (and skeptical) myself when I read this in Megami Magazine. It even sounded as though they're hinting there may be a second season (but I still doubt it). The news also came out in both of their official websites (Click here to read the article. It's in Japanese though ^^;). If you'd like further clarification, visit Omni's blog. He did a good job in summarizing it.
"BTW I just saw Juliet´s cospiracy.. eheh.. MOElicious.."
LOL That one nearly gave me a nose bleed (Do girls get nose bleed from this O.O?). I really enjoyed it, although I still prefer "This Week's Armitage". That one was hilarious! XD
Well, yeah, I guess if you see Erstin´s .. ehm .. ~best pieces~, you get nose bleed even if you are already dead and drained..
Thank you, I´ve already checked on Omni´s, but I do agree with you in being skeptical about a second season.. after 2 fake movie trailers I only believe things when I get to see them. (Damn you, Sunrise!)
H3ll, I´m so d@mn excited about these last two episodes.. it´s even worse than a first date! ^^ OMG, am I weird? ^~^
But I have to say, if I get to see what I want to see (and I guess it´s the same as you want to see) well then I guess I can rest in peace together with Sergay.
Please, please Sunrise, give us some love-love-love fan service of ShizNat!!
PLEEEEEEASE!!
.......No comment on Erstin's um... Assets. *Blood starts dripping*
Too bad that special is the only time we'll ever get to see some actual *physical* interaction between Nina and Ers-chan, so I'm happy for the latter :). Hope there will be more in future ones. ;p
No prob. Geez yeah, Sunrise just loves to tease us with everything. Lets pray that the OVAs won't end up being a spoof of some sort but the info on their websites seems genuine.
Last two episodes were THE BOMB!! Gawd, my heart has never pounded that hard before. I can assure you, you won't be disappointed with them. There are some issues which still let me down a bit but they were very minor compared to the overall episodes themselves. I won't disclose anything coz you MUST watch it unspoiled to enjoy it. ^____^
I saw them.. but I´m still dwelling on all what happened.
But:
1.They didn´t kiss, DAMNSunrise!
2.....Miss Maria O.O ... HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!
1. That is exactly one of those things which let me down. DAMN YOU, SUNRISE!!!! We didn't get our compensation!!
2. Surprising, but I agree on the hawtness. Never knew she's capable of putting on such a display. :p
Ok, enough dwelling.
This was one of the best ending I ever saw. Far better than Hime. This was kicks@$$, the music was fantastic, enough screentime for everyone. I was so excited that I was even singing Otome DO MY BEST out loud.. poor neighboor..
GREAT GREAT GREAT.
I don´t start counting how many elements from evangelion, sailor moon and (obviously) gundam I saw and how many animation *recycles* (there were many..), this maybe later.
What I wanted to write is WHY? why didn´t they kiss? I mean, a hug would have done it too.. they teased us for sooooooo long about them and what we get at the end is a big smile (btw, I don´t think I´ve ever seen Natsuki smile that way, she was really pretty =^.^=) and almost a yard between them when they get back together.. :(
But we have a naked Shizuru (I don´t think I will ever get that blood spot away from my couch.. ^^; ) and I have to say it again (and I never thought I would) Miss Maria looks so hawt in her robe! Let´s have the OAV about her!! ;)
I don´t want to write that much now, I´m still waiting for the subs (I´m not that skilled with japanese), but I think I´m fine with Sergay (handsome with long hair..^^; ), Arika should have stayed in her new blue robe and Nina should make a process against her hair stylist.. why do we women always need a new haircut to start over?!?
But these are questions that will never get answers.. like how did Tomoe survive that fall? or Fuuka Gakuen? isn´t this supposed to be another planet? or if it´s another planet why does Shizuru still speak her Kyoto-ben? H3ll who cares, it´s just soooo sexy! We love you, Naomi!!!!
Damn right you are. ^___^
Yeah, I guess I'm rather happy with how everything turned out in the end and I'm very satisfied that the finale is much better than HiME's.
I'm waiting for the subs as well because some conversations were quite complicated for me to comment on unless I get clarification. Well, until the next review then. ;)
LOL NO Theres no way Sergey gave in....uhh it's creepy. Ok puttin aside the age difference, it's just he got it on while reminscing about the past where she's a young child quoting "Otou-sama". *shivers*
Dav have you seen the Mai HiME DVD yet? LOL Shizuru has a southern accent...it's umm interesting. *Must not watch the dub ever again*! XD
Haha I'm estactic about the extra four eps...YEA! MAI OTOME FTW!
"Theres no way Sergey gave in."
Ahaha... Guess so. What was he really doing o.O? Ooh... Don't tell me XP. Come to think of it, who was having those flashbacks of good ol' daddy and daughter days? Nina? Sergay? Or both?
"Dav have you seen the Mai HiME DVD yet? LOL Shizuru has a southern accent...it's umm interesting. *Must not watch the dub ever again*!"
O.M.G!! They degraded Shizuru-ojousama's sophisticated elegance?! Unforgivable :p!! I haven't watched the dubs yet but I guess from your response, it sucked big time. LOL But I would like to get my hands on them so that I can see how much they sucked compared to the Japanese version. XD
